Background
I have lived in and around the Anston and Woodsetts area since 1987 when I moved from Worksop to Anston with my Husband and daughter. Our son was born in 1988. Both children attended schools in Anston. I was elected
to Anston Parish council in 1989 and have been active member ever since. I have previously held the position of chair of council and am currently the vice chair. I have been active in community groups, being a member of the Conservation society, involved in the Anston Stones Wood committee, and organiser of Anston Folk club.
My Public Roles
During my time on the Parish council we have seen the development of the play grounds, originally with the wood framed play equipment and latterly with the new and innovative pathfinder playschemes at Whitegates, Lockwood and on the Parish recreation ground.
Other developments I have been involved with include the Parish Welcome to Anston boundary stones, development of the paths, steps and information panels in the Stones Wood. I was privileged to unveil the plaque commemorating the transporting of Anston stone from Anston, via Dog Kennel lane to the Chesterfield canal, where it was taken by barge to build the houses of parliament. There remains a pinnacle from Westminster in the memorial garden in South Anston.
I am a governor at Anston Greenlands school, where my grandson attends. Children are our future and deserve equal opportunity in life.
I have also an interest in affordable homes, and I am a board member of a social housing charity.
My Working Life
I am a physiotherapist and have worked in the NHS for 34 years, in the community across Rotherham including Anston and Woodsetts, with children and young people with disabilities, in schools and in their homes, I am committed to working to enable these young people to have access to services, work and equality. As member of the professional committee advising the NHS board I have been involved in shaping the future of health services in Rotherham.
My Values
I am opposed to the cuts to education and local authorities that the Coalition government are implementing, and the rise in tuition fees will mean that opportunities for young people will be restricted, and the removal of the educational maintenance grant will further reduce that opportunity for families on lower income.
I am convinced that education is a priority for all our children and will strive to uphold the education system, which supports our excellent schools in the Anston and Woodsetts area
I am a partner in a small business and understand some of the issues which face local businesses, I would support the growth of small businesses in the Anston and Woodsetts area, hairdressers, butchers and builders all contribute to the local economy, and our Post Offices are the heart of our community.
My Pledge To You
I pledge to work for the people in the Anston and Woodsetts community, hold community surgeries, work with community groups and represent our interests at the Borough council. We live in a wonderful rural ward, with access to the Chesterfield canal, Anston Stones Wood and walks around Lindrick Dale and Woodsetts. Let’s preserve that natural environment and work together with the many organisations and community groups that makes Ward 1 Anston and Woodsetts the engaging and charming place it is.
